Hungarian lady keeps eye on Africans

Her name is Adrienn Nyisztor but prefers to be called Adri. She is a 23-year-old International Communication graduate whose immediate plan is to make documentary film about Africans living in Hungary. Adri passionately believes she has enough experience including personal ones for such project which is expected to come out before the end of this year

Hungarian lady keeps eye on Africans
Adri says she’d like to show Hungarians the difference between Africans and Afro-Americans; the differences that exist among Africans themselves; to expose those Africans she refers to as bad eggs whose trade is “oil talking in order to get into Hungarian women pants”.
The other reason for shooting the documentary, according to her, is to educate and alert Hungarians so they don’t fall into the trap of these Africans whom she accused of doing anything possible in order for them to be able to stay in Hungary.

Meanwhile she lashed at those Africans whom she also accused of imitating Afro-Americans in music, language and social life. In her view, Africa is rich in culture, so why are the people ashamed of their heritage? She asks. It becomes an issue when majority of Africans living in Hungary give the impression that they are Afro-Americans. Excerpts:

Could you please tell the readers your name?
My name is Adrienn Nyisztor but you can call me Adri.
Briefly say something about yourself
Well, where should I start? I'm a 23-year-old Hungarian girl who is open to the world with its advantages and disadvantages. I have never been afraid of challenges thrown to me over the years. I was told at High School that every human should be treated equally without discriminating against anyone on the ground of gender, age, skin colour or religion. I think I have learned my lesson. Since I was a kid, I have had strong interest in music. I liked to perform either in form of singing or playing the piano. Music is my passion even if this is an overused phrase. I mostly listen to American music such as hip hop, R&B and Reggae. It may be the force that has driven me to "exotic people" in Hungarian standards. My other passion is writing. I express my thoughts in poems, song lyrics or even in short stories. I am also interested in film production – very much. I am working in a film studio at the moment but I really would like to start my own business and produce my own movies.
You like Africa and Africans...could you please explain why you like Africa and its people?
I think it all comes back to my passion for music. I love hip hop and R&B and these are songs associated mostly with "black people". I do not like to use this term, however, sometimes I have to. Unfortunately, Hungarians often think Africans and Afro-Americans are the same; they don’t know much about the differences. I am amazed by some African people's strength and optimism even in the darkest hour. This is what I have learnt from my relationship with Africans. Two things come to my mind when it comes to Africans: "Never give up" and "Don't worry, be happy". I can't say that I like all Africans. I appreciate people who work hard to reach their goals and respect Christian values. Some of them only talk about it but never practise them.
You're doing a documentary on Africa. Why documentary on Africa?
Well, the issue is quite complex. I have two aims: 1.) showing people the difference between Africans and Afro-Americans and 2.) Showing people the difference between the so-called "bad eggs" and Africans. I know I shouldn’t say this but unfortunately certain group of Africans deserves this term. I am talking about those who come here and refused to work. They engage in all kinds of illegal activities. These people would like to be associated with the rich US rappers. For example, 50 Cent by wearing fashionable clothes, using the "oily talk" to get into Hungarian women pants and care nothing about the future. Hungarian women should be warned against these guys. I know this from personal experience that having a black skin colour does not necessarily mean "being cool" or "being a homie". Of course this is not true about everyone that comes to Europe from Africa. However, their reputation is being damaged by the improper behaviour of these bad eggs. It is a shame because they should be proud of their own culture instead of imitating another culture. I would also like to show people how biased "we Whites" are when it comes to "race". Why? I mean "we" tend to claim to be liberal and modern. No, "we" aren't. Discrimination is alive and both parties have to do something about it.
What is the title of the documentary? When is it coming out? And in which platform do you want to view it?
It is at the early stage. I welcome all kinds of help if there is any. However, I am planning to shoot it this year. I need volunteers who would like to show their lives to the audience and speak up for their people. It is pretty hard. I would like to send the documentary to the film festivals in the first place and if it arouses attention, I would like to release it in the movie theatres. For that I would need closer ties to this business. Time will tell.
Have you ever been to Africa? Are you planning to? When?
Well, the only African country I have been to is Morocco. I spent one day there on a vacation in Malaga. What I noticed was the incredible poverty, the shocking difference between the rich and the poor. I also noticed the simplicity of life there. Although I did not feel at home there, I’d obviously love to travel to Africa, especially to the "tourist places". I do not feel strong enough to "discover" Africa on my own, so I think I’d just go through a travel agency. And it is also the big question of the future.
You had an African boyfriend before. How would you describe your relationship with him in terms of romance and things associated with relationship?
Hum, honestly I’ll disappoint you in this regard. My ex-boyfriend actually belongs to that "bad eggs" group I described above. I do not want to get into details because I am sure people are not interested in the "dirty details" but what I’d like to say is, if two people have a very different lifestyle, they should not even start dating each other. From that single experience I have learned that African guys are not for me. I do have African friends that I keep in touch with via the internet but I have not met them. It was my choice and I have not regretted a thing. I think after such shocking experience I am not willing to give another chance to anyone. I think everybody should find a partner from their own race. But I have a Colombian boyfriend now so I cannot say I have kept to this. However, I know our cultures are similar to each other and our way of living and way of thinking are pretty similar. Of course I am not against mixed marriages. What I’m saying is that it’s just not for me.

You must have had bad experience from this relationship

Yes he and his group are typical example of irresponsible African men in Hungary. They feed on women for survival. However, I have to face my past because if I don’t do, I will never get over it.

What actually happened between you and your ex-boyfriend?

He is a cheat and a liar though coming from me, it may not be considered objective. He and his friends are ready to have sex with anyone that has hole between the laps. He sells his body to get accommodation and money. He even wanted to marry me while living with someone else. But I am not that stupid to fall into such trap. I was also sexually harassed by one of his friends. Besides, he was too possessive. I mean we were together and I did everything I could to help and support him. I was angrier than being hurt when all his lies were revealed to me.

What is his nationality?

Who knows? He claims to be Liberian. Too much lies.

Don’t you think women should also share the blame?

Yes some women are just the same. My objective however, is to protect the innocent but naïve ones. Their lives should not be wrecked due to ignorance and, or because of love for someone who doesn’t even understand what love means.

Compare African men and Hungarian men in terms of relationship

Well, all the differences that may arise are mainly cultural. Hungarian men can be just as "bossy" and old-fashioned as African men are. They can also cheat just as African men. The main difference is in the trust issue. African men would "defend their properties" more violently than Hungarians. However, they can act differently when it comes to friendship. I think we are simply raised in a different way than the African people. It is not better or worse, only differences.
What can you say about charity organisations in Hungary using African name?
I know it is my shame but I do not know anything about them...
What is your view about a Nigerian guy called Fekete Pákó who sings in Hungarian?
I wrote my thesis partly on him too... I think he is the biggest shame of Africa. I wish he could simply vanish in the air. I feel ashamed of my own nation too. How can people like such a stupid fellow! I do not understand.

What do you think about the recent interview he had with Bombárgy TV?
Well he was just being himself...Nothing more and nothing less...
Do you think he’s going to be jailed for praising Hitler and Szalási?
Here in Hungary? I do not think so. The media live from clowns like him. As long as he makes money for them, he will be kept on stage....and out of prison.
What do you think about Africans living in Hungary in general?
I have mixed opinion. I have very good memories about some people and very bad ones too. I think we all should create the real mirror image about them in our heads instead of creating a fake one.

I have always condemned those Africans who hide their true nationality and pass for African Americans. However, living as an immigrant in Asia has given me a deeper understanding of the dilemma of Africans.
Most Africans who disguise their heritage are barely responding to the dictates of their host societies. In most countries, America has often been looked upon as the ideal. Africa remains that God forsaken land stooping pathetically under the weight of war, disease, poverty and ignorance.
When you introduce yourself as African the reception is different than when you pass for an American. The Hungarian environment may be different from what we have here in China, but the fact that Africans there are disguising their identities is indicative enough.

Lucky Dube of blessed memory sang: "Where ever you go teach the world about your nation." Experience has taught me that when you uphold your identity with dignity there comes a time when those who look at you with scorn will begin respecting you.

Meanwhile, I would like to caution the young lady to learn to extricate her anger at being jilted from her desire to paint a true picture of the deeds and misdeeds of Africans. If she doesn't do that her movie would be clouded by prejudices, half truths and untruths.
